My baby sister, Stacey is getting married in September! It’s such a fun and exciting time for the whole family and the kick-off to the celebrations started on August 10th when I hosted her shower in my back yard.
There was no rain in the forecast. Like…at all. But on Saturday morning it poured rain for hours with no sign of letting up. I was starting to really worry if my garden party was actually going to happen in the garden or have to be brought inside Then, at noon, the skies cleared up and the sun came out and four fabulous friends showed up to help keep me sane and do some decorating. Huge thanks to Monica and Laura for bringing treats and the flowers from your garden and to Joelle and Christin for all your help setting up!
We chose to go a simple route for our menu. I had my sister pick out all her favorite treats and finger foods and ran with it. Sometimes the simple things are the best!
I made 6 really cute floral centerpieces and I was absolutely in love with the way they turned out. Again, super simple, but they were a really beautiful touch. I didn’t take too many photos, but the ones I did, all have these flower in them. Can you say, obsessed?
We played some really fun games, too. Big thanks to Christin for planning out this part of the day! The most fun game, by far, was watching Stacey try to guess how Dustin answered a series of questions. Christin recorded Dustin on video and played the answers on a TV we setup up in the yard. The answers had everyone laughing! Every time she answered a question wrong, she had to put a giant marshmallow in her mouth. We learned a lot about their goofy relationship!
I also made a fabulous banana cake with hazelnut ganache and banana cream. Words can’t even describe how delicious this cake was! There are quite a few steps to make it, but it’s totally worth it.
My sister and I cut the cake together to help her “practice” for the big day.
Everyone raved about the cake. It was the perfect combination of flavors!
I made s’more macarons for the favors and they were a huge hit. I used homemade marshmallow fluff, along with a dollop of ganache in the center and they were absolutely delightful.
It was such a bummer when the shower ended because I was enjoying visiting with all our family and friends and eating good food. But the wedding is just around the corner and we will all be together again and I can’t wait to watch my baby sister walk down the isle!
